MANUFACTURING PROCESS

1. Purchase of wood mass

The entire production cycle of mouldings and frames begins in the forest. The purchase of wooden logs is the responsibility of our specialist wood buyer, who supervises the quality and acceptance of the raw material. We purchase this raw material appropriately in accordance with our sustainability certifications.

2. Log cutting

The sawmill is equipped with frame cutting technology. For maximum use of wooden logs, they are sawn with one cut, the so-called sharp cut is chosen.

3. Wood warehouse

The sawn timber is stored in a wood warehouse according to the warehouse plan, and the thickness / dimensions. The timber retains its bark to eliminate drying cracks and is left to dry naturally to achieve the best quality parameters before entering the mechanical dryers.

4. Kilns

In the dryers, the lumber gets rid of residual moisture and removes unwanted tension. A gradual and gentle drying regime is chosen based on our long-term experience.

5. Making an infinite join

The lumber is further processed into battens. Defects are detected by a scanner and then cut out with an automatic saw. The battens approved for production are then milled, finger-jointed, and glued back together to make our 3-meter lengths.

6. Profiling, sizing

The length-adjusted battens are glued further in the assembly line to form a rough form, and then profiled into a shape that is checked by a calibration sheet and metal template.

7. Gessoing

A thin layer of chalk, kaolin and glue is applied to the wooden bar by extrusion through a precisely machined steel template so that the perfect surface for finishing the length is prepared.

8. Hand finishing

Operations such as applying metal leaf, patinating, lining, brushing and other operations requiring skill and expertise are performed on the prepared surface of the length.

9. Machine finishing

A thin film with a large variability of designs is applied to the bar. This also includes machine pressing of ornaments.

10. Spraying

Paints, varnishes and patinas for finishing are applied to the finished length.

11. Packaging

Each length is packed and labelled, to indicate the product number, batch and meter quantity.

12. Warehouse

The standard collection is kept in stock and is ready for dispatch to the customer.

13. Framing service

Larson-Juhl provides comprehensive framing services. It also prepares samples for the distribution of new collections of mouldings and also the production of ready made frames.

14. Expedition

Distribution of ordered mouldings and other products is provided by a groupage service that delivers goods to customers every day, within 24 and 48 hours.

15. Production of closed-corner frames

The manufacture of closed-corner frames is based on manual work. Ornaments are glued to the frame, metal leaved, patinated, scraped and the frame is given its final form.

16. Production of briquettes

The company has a closed production cycle. All wood waste is processed for the production of wood briquettes or incinerated in a boiler room. The briquette is produced by pressing wood waste under pressure and temperature without the use of glue.
